Orthodontics is a special type of tool used by dentists for many cosmetic and medical purposes, and these are the most important objectives that orthodontics is used to achieve:
- Move the teeth gradually, and get a smile in which the teeth line regularly.
- Improve the occlusion of the jaws and the upper teeth on the lower teeth.
- Jaw dilation or treating prominent front teeth
Orthodontic components
Orthodontics consists of:
- Small metal pieces (straps) that are directly glued to the tooth, are usually hollow from the inside and have a hook that can be opened.
- A metal wire is inserted in the middle of the metal pieces attached to the tooth, connecting all the suspenders attached to the teeth, and this wire is tightened from time to time to bring the teeth closer together.
Post-orthodontics
After removing the braces and getting the desired result, there is a final stage that should not be neglected, which is the fixing phase, and here a special tool called the tooth stabilizer is designed, worn after the completion of the orthodontics to prevent the teeth from returning to their places and keeping them fixed.
Types of orthodontics
Transparent orthodontics
This type of orthodontic consists of a complete transparent mould designed specifically for the patient’s teeth, which is changed every two weeks. the entire calendar journey here needs approximately 18-30 different moulds because they are changed every several weeks along with the change in distances between the teeth and the change in occlusion as the teeth move from the place.
Traditional metal orthodontics
This type of orthodontic is the most common, and the calendar here is made entirely of metal, and of all types of orthodontics the metal calendar is the least expensive, and it is often the fastest and most effective.
